During the Reagan presidential years, the East Beach Lodge was host to the President's support staff during his many visits to his Santa Barbara ranch. Home to White House Communications, White House Motor Pool, the Secret Service and the White House valets and stewards, the Inn at East Beach was an especially lively place during those years and was proud to extend its warm welcome to those hardworking members of the President's team.
One of the Inn at East Beach's proudest contributions to our foreign affairs occurred back in March of 1983 when England's Queen Elizabeth visited President Reagan at his ranch for lunch. The President's personal chef was our frequent guest and he chose to prepare his multi-course gourmet Mexican lunch for the Queen and the President in his spacious kitchen suite at our Santa Barbara Inn rather than the rather cramped ranch kitchen. Four wheel drive vehicles
driven by specially assigned military White House Motor pool personnel ferried each course all the way to the Presidential retreat. Word is that the Queen never enjoyed better Enchiladas and Chile Rellenos and Britain has remained our loyal ally ever since.
